Contrary to the earlier ODI World Cup opening ceremonies which were always a grand affair, it seems that there will be no opening ceremony at the opening match of ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 which is scheduled to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
This year’s World Cup has been controversial galore with the BCCI being involved in one controversy after another. First, there was controversy about the food for the Pakistani team. Then the choice of the venues left much to be done. All the wrong buttons were being pressed by the BCCI. The latest controversy is that there will be no opening ceremonies for the World Cup this year. It was the latest thorn in the foot of all cricket fans and everyone is deriding and criticizing the BCCI.
No Big Stars Of Bollywood In Attendance, Only CAPTAINS Meet And Laser Show
The opening ceremony was to be held on October 4 at the Narendra Modi stadium. The BCCI had roped in many Bog Whigs from the tinsel town and included stars such as Asha Bhosle, Ranveer Singh, Tamannah Bhatia, Shreya Ghoshal, Shankar Mahadevan, and Arijit Singh for the opening night. However, BCCI has thrown water on the excitement of the cricket fans and there are unconfirmed reports that there will be no opening ceremony for World Cup 2023.
As per media reports, BCCI will only have captains meet tomorrow. For entertainment, only a laser show has been finalized. Fans are exasperated especially after going through the excruciating process of getting a ticket for the match.
The tickets have been sold out in minutes and many fans have paid twice and thrice the actual ticket amount in the black market. However, it is now said that the BCCI will have a closing ceremony on November 19 or a grand ceremony before the India vs Pakistan clash on October 14.
Netizens have been outpouring their displeasure on various social media platforms. Some netizens have described the management of ticket sales by the BCCI as chaotic and other netizens have commented and agreed with their views.

Netizens have expressed disappointment that in the name of entertainment quotient for the opening ceremony, there will only be a laser show. One netizen commented that the BCCI thinks that the India-Pakistan encounter is the world cup. Another netizen commented that this is the worst management by the BCCI for the World Cup. Another viewer commented that the World Cup this year is a disaster and even called Jay Shah’s action idiotic and even mad.

Bollywood stars will not be there, as the BCCI is set to cancel the WC opening ceremony. Big preparations were in full swing ahead of the big day. But it seems all the preparation has come to naught.
Before the big day, all the 10 captains will arrive in Ahmedabad on October 3. However, the BCCI will only have a captain’s meet and a laser show and there will be no opening ceremony.
One reason that is being floated is that there will be no time for any jamboree before the match which is scheduled to take place at 2 PM IST. Worse, the fireworks and laser show will also not be possible in daylight.
The match will see all the captains and also big officials from different cricket boards of participating countries as well as officials from ICC and will also include top administrators of all cricket boards in the event.
