Planning a summer vacation to Disney World? You are not alone! Summer is the perfect time to visit theme parks. The kids are out of school and taking time off work could be a little easier. That said, summer at Disney World has a sad reality: it’s hot, hot, HOT. It’s really hot.

Not only is it hot, but it’s also very humid. The weather plays a big role in how you experience Disney World during the summer months. It’s important to plan accordingly! Take note of the following tips as you prepare for a summer trip to the parks. These range from packing essentials to strategies you can use when you’re in the parks to stay comfortable.
Moisturize, hydrate, hydrate
Perhaps the most important step you can take to stay comfortable at Disney World during the summer months is to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water – I’m talking about needing to go to the bathroom every 30 minutes. Staying hydrated is important any time of year, but giving your body enough water is crucial when temperatures soar. You will also need to be very careful with other drinks throughout the day. Limit alcohol or other drinks that could dehydrate you.

Staying hydrated is pretty simple if you know where to find water. Free cups of iced water are available at quick service locations around the parks. To save money on bottled water, instead, carry a refillable water bottle in your park bag. There are fountains and bottle refill stations around the parks.
Consider spending time at water parks
Disney World has two water parks that it operates seasonally: Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. If you decide to head to the water parks to stay cool, keep in mind that attractions will close during lightning in the area. This can happen daily during the summer months, so plan accordingly. This tends to happen more in the afternoon, so do your water walks early!

Returning for the Summer 2026 season, admission to one of the water parks (whichever is operating at the time) is included with your Disney World hotel stay on the day of your arrival. This offer is valid for all guests whose names appear on the resort reservation. Theme park tickets are not required to take advantage of this offer.

Prioritize attractions with water or air conditioning
Traveling to Disney World in the middle of summer could mean rearrange your priorities. If you don’t know how hot it can get, you might be surprised how much it slows you down. To stay comfortable throughout the day, look for attractions and other areas of the park that offer little water or large amounts of air conditioning.
Water attractions at Walt Disney World for a quick refreshment:
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (Magic Realm)
- Water journey inspired by Moana (EPCOT)
- Rapids of the Kali River (Disney’s Animal Kingdom)

If you want to feel refreshed after one of these water rides but don’t want your clothes to get soaked, you’ll want bring some ponchos in your parking bag. You can save a lot of money by ordering packs from Amazon rather than buying them at Disney World.
Longer indoor attractions (around 10 minutes or more) for that glorious air conditioning:
- Hall of Presidents (Magic Realm)
- Haunted Mansion (Magic Realm)
- Pirates of the Caribbean (Magic Realm)
- It’s a small world (Magic Realm)
- PhilharMagic of Mickey (Magic Realm)
- Country Bear Musical Jamboree (Magic Realm)
- Enchanted Tiki Room (Magic Realm)
- Progress carousel (Magic Realm)
- Spaceship Earth (EPCOT)
- Living with the land (EPCOT)
- American adventure (EPCOT)
- Journey into the imagination with Figment (EPCOT)
- Talk turtle with Crush (EPCOT)
- Impressions of France/Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along (EPCOT)
- Awesome planet (EPCOT)
- Reflections from China (EPCOT)
- Canada everywhere (EPCOT)
- Walt Disney presents gallery and exhibits (Disney Hollywood Studios)
- Disney Villains: Unjustly Forever (Disney Hollywood Studios)
- The Little Mermaid – A musical adventure (Disney Hollywood Studios)
- Lion King Festival (Disney’s Animal Kingdom)
- Zootopia: a better Zoogether! (Disney’s Animal Kingdom)
- Finding Nemo: The Deep Blue… and beyond! (Disney’s Animal Kingdom)
Additionally, you may want to prioritize areas of theme parks where you can spend more time indoors. This is easy in a park like EPCOT, which has many indoor pavilions around World Showcase and The Land and Seas in World Nature. You may have a harder time doing this at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Take frequent breaks
As helpful as a water walk may seem in the moment, it won’t keep you cool all day. What I find helpful when visiting theme parks during the summer months is taking frequent breaks. I mean frequent. Delve into each gift shop and use them as part of your path from point A to point B. The air conditioning will be running at full blast (additional tip: use your portable fan when you’re in the gift shops. This will help blow the conditioned air toward you, as opposed to hot air when using a fan outside).

Another tip: consider booking a table service reservation for lunch instead of dinner. Choose to eat in an indoor location in the early afternoon when the sun is at its most relentless. Disney World also has several indoor quick service locations, but at least one table service reservation will guarantee you have a table ready for you when you arrive.

Aside from short five to ten minute breaks in parks, I find that take longer afternoon breaks at your hotel is most valuable during the summer. Dive into the pool. Take a shower. Take a nap. Putting on a new set of clothes can make you feel like a whole new person.

Then you can enjoy theme parks when temperatures are a little coolr, like morning and evening. Speaking of the evening, once you’re rested after your mid-afternoon break, you can head back around sunset and have a much better time.

Pack the essentials
When you’re between walks, meals, etc., you’ll need to rely on the things you’ve packed in your park bag to keep you cool and comfortable in the summer. This can be tricky because you don’t want to be weighed down by a huge backpack when temperatures are highest. So you want to pack the bare minimum, but you also don’t want to forget anything important.

If you looked in my park bag in the summer, you would find the following:
That’s really all I carry with me – along with my phone and my card holder.
I hope you can use these tips if you’re heading to the theme parks this summer! Hot temperatures can hit any time of year, but summer is a different kind of beast that you need to plan for in advance.
